Grade 8 Common Core Math
Math integrates applied arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, and connects all of these areas to measurement, probability, and statistics. This course provides opportunities for students to visualize and demonstrate concepts with a focus on real-world applications. Scientific calculators are a tool of the Twenty First Century which will be used in this course. Technology is essential in teaching and learning mathematics; it influences the mathematics that is taught and enhances students' learning. Activities are incorporated within lessons to enable students to take a more active approach to learning and developing concepts. Communication is an essential part of mathematics and mathematics education. To achieve communication skills, students must read, write and speak about mathematics. In order to become an independent learner of mathematics, a student must learn how to learn mathematics from reading. Students will effectively use the language of math with discussions in small groups or with the whole class. Opportunities for individual or group work with calculators, computers or other physical materials encourage active learning while helping students to discover new concepts.
Grade 8 Enhanced Common Core Math
The topics covered in Enhanced Grade 8 Common Core Math class look much like the topics that are covered in Grade 8 Common Core Math class. What differs; is the sophistication of the response expected and the rigor of the work required. There is a strong expectation for students to explore mathematics in depth and make connections beyond the boundaries of the textbook.
